Method Underground

Overview

Method Underground Bouldering Series is a 3-part bouldering competition.  Much like our hugely popular mock comp, Wednesday Night Onsight, we offer multiple categories from beginner to advanced to accommodate climbers of all levels.  This competition series will be a Redpoint format.  The top 3 spots in each category for both male and female will receive prizes from Method and our generous sponsors.

The Open category will include some of the best climbers around who will be vying for at least $2,800 cash purse for each of the 3 competitions in the series. The qualifying round will also be in a Modified Redpoint format while the finals will be in an Onsight format consisting of 4 boulders.

Important Information

This three (3) part bouldering series will consist of four (4) categories divided into 2 groups, male and female. The 2nd leg of the series will take place on Saturday, Dec 17th; the first wave will run from 10am – 1pm, and the 2nd wave will run from 2pm – 5pm.  The Open category finals will begin at 7pm. The final leg on Saturday, Apr 22nd. 

If purchased in advance, entry fee is $60 for nonmembers and $35 for members.

Free admission for spectators for the finals.

Competition Format
  • Open Category –
    • Qualifier Round – The format for the open category will be red point.  It will be self-scored using an honor system but each completed climb will have to be verified by 2 other competitors (signatures from yourself or spectators will not be accepted).  The score card will include signature lines which must be completed in order to be valid.  
    • Finals Round – Finals will be in onsight format.  The top six (6) qualifiers in each of the male and female categories will advance to the Finals.  Consisting of four (4) boulders for men and women.
  • Other Categories – The format for the other categories will be red point with only tops.  We will again use the self-scoring system using an honor system (as above).  The top 5 climbs will count toward your score.
How will we prevent sandbagging?

Method will place each competitor into their respective categories using a formula-based calculation.

Prizes
  • Open
    • Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three (3) finishers of each of the male and female categories: First Place – $750; Second Place – $500; Third Place – $250
  • Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced
    • Over $4,500 of prizes for the citizen’s competition.  Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place finishers in each category.  All prizes are gear and merchandise donated by Method or sponsors of the event.  There will be no cash prizes for these categories
