Full/Part-time Route Setter

We are METHOD, a new full service climbing facility coming to the heart of Newark, NJ. We are looking for passionate, accomplished, knowledgeable and skilled routesetters to join our family. METHOD aims to develop a cutting-edge routesetting program that values experimentation, variety, quality and learning. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic about improving as climbers and setters, as well as growing a diverse community in a rapidly expanding urban environment.
Routesetters:
The routesetting team will be responsible for creating fun, challenging experiences for climbers of all backgrounds and skill levels. Routesetters will work individually and as a team to fulfill the goals and assignments of the Head Routesetter to ensure a timely turn-around schedule as well as for special events such as competitions, training camps, clinics, etc. The setting team will create interesting, thought-provoking challenges with the goal of educating climbers and inspiring them to come back for more. METHOD understands the physical and athletic demands of high-quality routesetting and will always strive to maintain sustainable workloads and provide resources to keep our setting teams healthy, strong and psyched.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-year setting experience as part-time or full-time setter on ropes and boulders.
- USA Climbing Routesetting Certification Level 2 or higher is preferred.
- Ability to set and forerun grades up to v5 / 5.11 with a variety of movement and technique. This includes competition style climbs.
- Ability to show leadership skills, organization, and confidence.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work well on a team as well as independently.
- Detail oriented and organized.
- Open to receiving and giving feedback to the team in a constructive way.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of rope and anchor management skills
- Self-motivated with proven ability to balance multiple, simultaneous priorities
Compensation and Benefits:
This setter position will receive the following compensation and benefits based on experience, full or part time employment :
- 25 – 40hrs a week of part – time / full time work.

Assistant Manager
METHOD is a new indoor rock climbing facility and full service gym in the heart of Newark, NJ.
We are always on the lookout for an Assistant Manager with passion, enthusiasm, maturity, and professionalism to join our family to help create a gym with a thriving community, amazing climbing experience, and dope atmosphere – a place where climbers of all skill levels can push their limits, be inspired and feel at home through a strong supportive gym environment. We want Method to be recognized as the best indoor climbing experience in the Tri-State area, and Asst. Managers will be a huge component to accomplishing this goal.
Position Title: Assistant Manager
Qualifications:
- Experience (preferred):
- Previous management experience in an indoor climbing facility or other related service industry.
- Technical background and knowledge in climbing.
- Experience with climbing gym management software “Rock Gym Pro”.
- Traits
- Ability to show leadership skills, organization, confidence, and has a positive and magnetic personality.
- Strong work ethic and an ability to work independently.
- Willingness to work evenings/weekends/special events such as comps when needed.
- Detail oriented and organized.
- Open to receiving and giving feedback to the team in a constructive way.
- Enjoys working in a fun, fast-paced service environment, capable of staying calm, making quick decisions, and delicately managing customer and staff interactions.
- Other requirements
- Excellent vocal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with G suite and Microsoft Office.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Front Desk Staff

We want Method to be recognized as the best indoor climbing experience in the Tri-State area, and the Front Desk staff will be a huge component to accomplishing this goal.
Position Title: Front Desk Staff
Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day operational tasks including:
- Front Desk – Assist in customer check-ins, membership sales, rental gear management and customer related issues.
- Customer service – Engage with and understand our customers, including discovering and responding to customer needs through clear and pleasant communication.
- Assist in inventory and supply management and presentation of retail pro shop and cafe.
- Assist in project management.
- Receive and verify deliveries.
- Assist in training new hires in Rock Gym Pro & customer service
Qualifications:
- Experience (preferred, but not required):
- Previous experience in an indoor climbing facility or other related service industry.
- Previous experience in a cafe or retail experience.
- Previous experience as a climber with an understanding of belaying, climbing technique and terminology.
- Solid working knowledge of climbing equipment is preferred: Belay devices, harnesses, knots etc.
- Traits:
- Diligent – Strong work ethic and an ability to work independently. Willingness to work evenings/weekends/special events such as comps when needed.
- Meticulous – Detail oriented and organized.
- Open to receiving and giving feedback to the team in a constructive way.
- Enjoys working in a fun, fast-paced service environment, capable of staying calm, making quick decisions, and delicately managing customer and staff interactions.
- Demonstrate ability to work with and relate to kids, families and climbers of all abilities.
- Demonstrate ability to share skills and knowledge with others.
- Ability to pass a background check if 18 or older.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

- 20 – 25 hrs a week of part – time.
