Just the FAQs

Do I need to make a reservation?

No, just come on in during business hours and we’ll help you get started.  Save yourself some time by signing the waiver and video orientation acknowledgement online before you arrive.

Can I see a virtual tour?

Who needs to sign a waiver?

Everyone, even if you aren’t climbing. You will also need to sign the orientation video acknowledgement form.  Click below to fill both out before you arrive to the gym.

What do I need to start?

Just some comfortable athletic clothes and an adventurous attitude; climbing shoes are available to rent if needed as street shoes are not permitted on our walls.

Do you have an age limit?

Yes, the minimum age to participate is 7.  Additionally, if you’re bringing a child under the age of 14, they must be supervised at all times:

  • All children between the ages of 10-13 must be supervised by an adult at a 2:1 – child to adult – ratio.
  • Children under 10 years old must be directly supervised (within arm’s length) by an adult at a 1:1: – child to adult – ratio.
  • If you bring more than one child, please plan accordingly.

Do I need a partner or can I climb by myself?

If you are rope climbing, it’s always advised to climb with a partner, but we do have 8 auto belays in the roping area (which allow you to climb without a belay partner).  Bouldering is done without a partner or ropes.

What is Bouldering and is it hard?

Bouldering is a style of climbing that is generally done on shorter walls (less than 20 feet tall) without the use of harnesses or ropes.  It’s as challenging or easy as you want it to be, and our “problems” are color coded to help you identify its level of difficulty.

Method Climbing has a great vibe! super friendly community, fun and well-set routes, and an overall inspiring place to climb. Coach Enrique is awesome too; he’s really knowledgeable, encouraging, and makes every session fun and motivating.

I have tried to get into a regular workout for years, but to be perfectly honest, gyms are usually BORING to me. Not this one though. I come in three times a week, and it feels like a new playground every time. I've only been a member for about a month, but I feel super fit already, and really proud of how I'm beginning to tone. I also took my first yoga class with them in 20 years and I've never felt so internally balanced. And the best part is that the community here is an absolute treasure. I've never felt judged for falling off a wall or putting a harness on wrong by accident, the staff is so nice and helpful when you're figuring things out, and every month, they host multiple events in their cafe and the gym downstairs. Also, this is the only cafe in the area that stays open late, which is sometimes absolutely crucial for my own creative process. I feel truly thankful that I found this wonderful spot after moving to Newark. I hope to keep visiting for many, many moons. :)

Went here last week as a susprise birthday gift. Simply put, this place is amazing. I'd consider myself a complete beginner and couldn't have had a better instructor in Enrique. He was kind, informative, hilarious and most importantly, encouraging as he definitely verbally assisted me through one of the climbs that I truly wouldn't have reached the top without his positive reinforcement. The space is vast and I didn't feel like I waited for more than a few seconds to do any of the climbs. The staff is friendly and so, too, as the community. I would definitely go back.
Response from the owner:Thanks James!

I love Method. Other gyms have community but Method feels like a club to me. It had LIFE. That paired with the immaculate boulder setting and the bonus auto-belay and TR section just brings it over the top. Method is probably the best climbing gym Bergen.
Response from the owner:Thanks Jacob!

Method Climbing Gym is 100% the best climbing gym in New Jersey. I’ve been a member for a little over a year now and this place has become so special to me. The owners and the staff are involved, friendly, and supportive. Most importantly, the community at this gym is truly what makes it shine. It’s the most diverse, inclusive, and welcoming setting I’ve ever been in. There are various affinity groups that meet up regularly which are great for uplifting the community and making new friends. Do yourself a favor and pay them a visit!
Response from the owner:Thanks Amber!
Method is a wonderful place, with wonderful community, and wonderful climbing!

The best gym in the area and it’s not even close. My only issue with this gym is that it’s so far away from Manhattan. However, it is well worth the trip for the excellent setting and does a fantastic job of fostering community through inclusive events!
Response from the owner:Thanks Chetan!

My favorite place! Best community, amazing climbing, doesn’t get much better than this. Been climbing here the past couple years and it never disappoints. They’ve got something for people of all skill levels, as well as an awesome fitness facility. Makes me happy to see family owned gyms like this thrive. I’ll be coming back here far into the future!
Response from the owner:Thanks Arabella!

Definitely a comp style gym. People talk about this place all over. I work at a gym and central Pennsylvania and people know about Method which is wild. Such a fun place to go. I haven’t had much experience with the community since I only go there sporadically but it’s a very fun place to climb. I definitely get humbled since the style of climbing is so different from what Im used to but so much fun. The only complaint I have is really just the staff experience. I’ve never had a bad experience with the staff, but generally they kind of just ignore you. I’ve definitely gone and expect you to maybe have some cool conversations with other stuff since I also work at a gym, but for the most part still only really talk to you if you ask them questions. I don’t know, maybe it’s just since my gym really emphasizes that customer experience but otherwise this gym is pretty phenomenal and I still give it five stars.
Response from the owner:Thanks Darya! I'll mention this to our staff.

Great bouldering gym! Frequent new routes, a very active community also doing other things than climbing (e.g. D&D). The fitness classes (Capoeira, Yoga, TRX) are included in the membership and offer a good opportunity to try some new stuff. Also, they have a slackline in the toprope corner! 5/5 would recommend
Response from the owner:Thanks Anton!

Great climbing gym with owners that emphasize community. The boulders are well set with a nice mix of styles (competition, "finger-y", slab, steep, etc.). They set the walls in sections so there's enough time to work on projects but there's also a new set every other week. Rope climbs are excellent with many auto-belays if you train alone. They're short (35-40 feet) but are very technical and thoughtfully set. The resistance training, campus board, selection of hangboards, treadwall, spray wall, moonboard, and tension board are great for training at all levels.
Response from the owner:Thanks for the thorough review!

We feel so lucky to have this place! It has such a wonderful sense of community, and our kids (11 and 8) feel at home here. Our 8 year old son had his birthday party here, which was AMAZING. They had creative climbing- based games for the kids and they even put goody bags at the top of the climbs. They were so patient and kind with each of the kids - I can’t imagine a better place for a birthday party!!!
Response from the owner:Thanks Thomas!

A very amazing place. The staff are genuinely THE nicest people on the planet. The gym is a great place to meet Like-minded people who love climbing. I’ve learned so much just from watching others and simply saying hello/ asking questions. It’s a great environment, and I’m always challenging myself there. I leave the gym always feeling so accomplished and eager to get back. Every single time. I’m really happy I was introduced to this amazing gym and community. 10/10.
