The Top Rope Belay Certification process includes proper harness setup, knot-tying, belay commands, and technique. The form below allows participants to register and acknowledge their proficiency in the listed tasks.

Pre-Climbing Belay Check(Required)

I was able to properly secure my harness (Not tangled or twisted, oriented correctly with belay loop in the front, tight around the waist and legs)

I was able to correctly tie a figure 8 knot, with a long enough tail, attached to the correct points on my harness.

Climbing Test(Required)

I properly inspected both my own, and my belayers harnesses.

I properly demonstrated the ability to use the facility approved verbal belay commands.

Belay Test(Required)

I was able to properly attach the belay device (Lifeguard) to my harness.

I inspected my climbers harness, tie in point, and figure 8 knot.

I properly demonstrated the ability to use the facility approved verbal belay commands.

I demonstrated the ability to use the facility preferred belay technique “PLUS” (Pull, Lock, Under, Slide).

I demonstrated a proper belay stance and posture, and I am aware that belaying MUST be done standing.

I removed slack from the rope without ever taking a hand off of the brake end of the rope.

I demonstrated my ability to catch my climber safely and softly one or more times.

I safely lowered my climber to the ground at an appropriate speed.
